The Laughlin Vineyard is located in the Russian River Valley Appellation of Sonoma County near the town of Fulton.  Fulton is located along River Road west of Santa Rosa, directly en-route to Jenner and the California Coast.  On the northwest border of the vineyard is Mark West Creek which runs from the Mayacamas Mountains into the Laguna de Santa Rosa, a magnificent wetland complex that gathers up many local creeks before draining their waters into the Russian River and then to the sea.  Close proximity to the creek provides cool, foggy mornings, however, it does heat up for the afternoons which brings ripeness to our fruit.
The vines are trained in a vertically upright position to maximize sunlight penetration to the berries.  Irrigation is seldom used.  Only organic practices are employed: foliar fertilizers such as the Biodynamic preparations and sea kelp solutions are applied to promote the health of the vines and decrease the amount of sulfur needed.  Owner Lee Martinelli, Jr. holds the vines to about 2.5 tons of fruit per acre which provides a concentration of fruit flavor not often found in higher tonnages.
