In the hills directly above the town of Cazadero on the Sonoma Coast lies the Bei Du Rochi Ranch. Owned by the Bei family for four generations the ranch is one ridge in from the Coastline on an easterly saddle that is protected from cool winds to the west by Pole Mountain. With an elevation of 1600 feet it is generally above the fog line which, in combination with mountainous protection, allows for really hot weather to settle in around afternoon time. This heat can ripen the big red varietals like Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon in an appellation that is considered only Pinot Noir country. This area of the Sonoma Coast appellation is known for steep mountains with a membrane of creeks flowing this way and that. Pole Mountain Creek is the closest to the ranch, flowing into Ward Creek then through Austin Creek before going into the Russian River on its way to Jenner where it meets the ocean.
