If there is such a thing as the world's greatest wine grape Pinot Noir certainly deserves a nomination. The great red grape of Burgundy, Pinot Noir produces some of the worlds most expensive wines. The skin of the grape is thinner than most reds, making it a difficult grape to grow which produces a wine lighter in color than most other dark-skinned wine grapes.
The aromas which arise out of a glass of Pinot Noir tend to be very exotic, ranging from violets and cherries to truffles and dirt. The riper the grape is allowed to become, the fruitier the aroma is which results. The cool Russian River Valley produces Pinot Noir with a great balance between fruit and earth on the nose. Our goal at Old World Winery is to produce a Pinot Noir which expresses its unique site, and we use minimal manipulation in the winemaking process to achieve this.
